As a high school or college student, making choices about one’s future job/career path or study track can be both exciting and potentially stressful. The Career Exploration Initiative intends to make exploring options a more rewarding and easy experience, offering support for young people as they design their own meaningful and fulfilling work life.
As part of the Career Exploration Initiative (CEI), BYS has partnered with one of our highly valued community partners, Rotary Club of Bainbridge Island, and a new, locally-founded social enterprise, FindMino, collaborating on the following programs:
- Coffee and Careers
- Job Shadows-launching in fall, 2020
- Summer Work Internships – returning summer, 2021
- Design Your Life Workshops – returning summer, 2021
The Coffee & Careers program offers you the opportunity to meet virtually with current employers, business owners and working and retired professionals for a casual conversation about jobs or careers that interest you.
To get started, simply register and take a short quiz that will help you identify your talents and interests. You will end up with a profile that FindMino will use to suggest college majors and jobs that would best fit your unique profile. Then take a deep dive to look inside a wide variety of majors and careers. For more information about how to sign up, check out this instruction guide.
Coffee With A Professional
The exciting part about FindMino is that, once you zero in on a few areas of interest, you can meet for coffee (virtually for now) with a local professional to learn more about a career path and what the day-to-day work life looks like. This personal connection will give you the opportunity to acquaint yourself with actual experience and explore more deeply a variety of study and career paths that suit you best. There is even help with preparing for these networking meetings. (The Coffee & Careers program is currently done on-line only, with respect for Covid-19. When applicable guidelines permit, they can be done in-person in local coffee shops. Parent permission is required for those under 18, which is managed online through FindMino.)
FindMino will inspire you to explore a variety of study tracks and career paths and think outside the box! We hope you will take advantage of this wonderful, free opportunity to learn about yourself and daydream about your future. Our new Coffee & Careers program will yield a high return on a small investment: just an hour can help shape your life path.
Helpful and Easy
“My mom helps me figure out what colleges might be best for me, and the school counselors, but I have felt pretty alone trying to figure out what I want to do in my career, and the next steps in life. FindMino was so helpful to me and gave me new ways of exploring what I do well with what’s out there. I learned about new careers I hadn’t even considered before. It was easy.“ Katherine, Age 17, High School Senior
