Make The Right Decision

My friend has recently told me that her father has sexually abused her for 9 years, and was raped by her ex boyfriend. She cuts a lot. I don’t know if I should tell someone or keep it a secret. I really want to talk to the school or someone about it, but she asked me to please not tell anyone.

I don’t want her to get hurt any more. I’m not sure if I should tell someone…What do you think I should do? Please help me make the right decision.

Thanks for trying to help your friend. Yes, we understand that your friend asked you not to tell but she obviously trusts you to do what is best. You can not keep this to yourself. Tell your parent, either your Mom or Dad whomever is the most comfortable for you.

They may feel it would be best to tell the counselor at school. The counselor is a mandated reporter so they would have to make a formal report to The Child Protective Services Hotline in Maryland at 1-800-332-6347.

Do something. Don’t keep this a secret.

    Pat, Counselor
